Marzia Gambardella

France / Italy

Marzia Gambardella was born in Italy and graduated in Philosophy. She trained and worked between Rome and Milan. She fell in love with puppets, learned to make and manipulate them and in 2009 she moved to France to work with Philippe Genty.

She collaborates with other companies as an actress, puppeteer and director. She started teaching and during this period she developed her own pedagogy.

In 2016 she founded the company MalaStrana in Paris.

What interests her is a visual theatre in which gestures, sounds, images, materials, puppets give body to our feelings, to our contradictions, to our conflicts, to what inhabits us.

What interests him is the human being in front of himself. That is why the puppet in her work becomes a double, a variation and an echo of the puppeteer… or the other way round.

In 2014, Marzia Gambardella was working on her first creation in France, Je boîte, when she joined the artists’ collective Jardin d’Alice. Here, in a former barracks transformed into workshops in the heart of Paris, artistic collaborations and complicities led to the creation in 2016 of the company MalaStrana.

Marzia runs intensive workshops for puppeteers and visual theatre artists through Mots de tête compagnie.
