Benoit Turjman

France

Benoit is an actor  with a very special background: mime, comedian, ex-stuntman and dancer! Trained at the Marcel Marceau school, he specialised in stunts and commedia dell’arte before returning to mime. He has played in nearly 30 comedies: theatre, stunt, circus, cabaret, opera, museum, cinema…

On the screen, he was notably a stunt double for Rowan Atkinson (Mr Bean).

Benoît has been a mime actor, teacher and movement coach since 2004. In 15 years, he has performed in nearly 30 different comedies, ranging from pantomime to circus, cabaret and commedia dell’arte.

A graduate of the Marcel Marceau School (2001-03), he started out as a stuntman at the Parc Astérix in an aerial act. As a mime actor, he assisted Emmanuel Vacca in L’Ami. He acted in Le Devin du Village, an opera by Jean-Jacques Rousseau, for which he “co-directed” the pantomimes.

In 2006, he joined the Cie du Mystère Bouffe with whom he specialised in commedia dell’arte. He played in 6 of the company’s creations. Between 2011 and 2013, he was a presenter and performer in the cabaret show Les Virtuoses de l’Etrange, touring France. He performed in the Argentinean circus show Circo Criollo on tour in France and Argentina.

Currently, he is successfully performing in his visual comedy Le Voisin, as well as in the sequel to the misadventures of Le Voisin: Ce soir ou jamais.

As a teacher of mime and commedia dell’arte, he has given numerous courses and masterclasses (Conservatories, festivals and many commedia courses in popular areas). He has taught at the University of Paris 8, to apprentices at the Académie Fratellini, and has collaborated with the Centre Pompidou, Monumenta and the Festival du Mot in their artistic education programmes. More recently in Lyon, he has taught at the Arts En Scène and Myriade schools, at the Théâtre des Asphodèles and at the Formation ID (for hip-hop dancers). His experience in comedy, masking and stunt acting gives him a cross-sectional view of acting.
